The "Interns" first field experience!
Today was the first of our reservoir trips for us interns. We went with Mr. O’Donnell, Mr.Naatus and our mentors Sophia, Cristy, Jennifer and Victoria. We went to take up greater responsibility and also to refill and hang up some MLCU’s (Mosquito Larvae Collection Units). We learned to create them days prior by one of our mentors. Next week we will go to the Reservoir again to check on the MLCU’s to check on the mosquitoes we were able to collect. We also took one of our MRI’s (Mosquito Reduction Initiative) and placed it so it will not be able to fall in case of weather, also to make it appealing to any nearby mosquitoes looking for a habitat.
We definitely are aiming to reduce the population of mosquitoes in our reservoir, to make it a great learning environment for kids to go and explore. I honestly wished I had gone in proper attire with me dressing in a T-shirt, jeans and sneakers. I was soaked by the time we were finished! I’m sure the other interns (Jose, Emily and Kevin) all agree. However, the reservoir was beautiful and breathtaking! It makes me excited and motivated to take up the mantle as a reservoir leader next year when the current leaders leave for high school.
